In conjunction with the NEXUS Forum on November 6, 2001 in Brussels, a meeting was called to bring together a group of people who were interested in forming a nucleus to assist in starting a User Supplier Club for the automotive area.

The objective of the meeting was to find whether there could be sufficient interest in the MST community to establish an Automotive USC with a balanced membership of Users and Suppliers. Per G. Gløersen of SensoNor agreed to act as facilitator in the period until the new USC could be considered as launched and stable.

A list of potential members was generated and letters of invitation to join the USC have been sent out.

A second meeting was held on Wednesday, March 20, 2002 in conjunction with AMAA 2002 in Berlin.

The agenda for this meeting included a presentation of the NEXUS Microsystems roadmap, a presentation by Wolfgang Gessner of VDI/VDE-IT of the instruments of the European Commissions VI Framework Programme, particularly the Integrated Project model.

This presentation led into an assessment of the possibilities for establishing an IP in the area of “Microsystems for Automotive Applications” as well as a presentation of parallel initiatives.

In the discussion following these presentations it became clear that the participants were not interested in heavy participation in the roadmap task force; and also that there is no basis for the NEXUS Automotive USC to seek an active role as coordinator of an Integrated Project.

This and further discussions during the AMAA conference has led to the conclusion that the aim of the USC should be oriented towards providing a broad technical forum with the focus shifted to activities such as:

A clear understanding and definition of the role of the NEXUS Automotive USC has to be developed in cooperation with other organizations active in this sector. The work towards establishing the USC continues, and people who have participated in the discussions or otherwise expressed interest in receiving information will be kept informed of the results of this activity.
