Skills: Tthin films deposition, TVA (Thermionic Vacuum Arc), Plasma physics

Details:

The group developed an original technology called Thermionic Vacuum Arc (TVA), suitable for nanostructured film preparation. TVA is a new method ideally suited for deposition of high purity thin films with compact structure and produces extremely smooth surfaces suitable for nanostructure film preparation.

The main advantages of this new method are:
- deposition of pure metal film in high or ultra - high vacuum conditions;
- no gas consumption and gas incorporation in the growing film;
- thin film condensed from the plasma of the evaporating metal or compound;
- the growing thin film is bombarded just during deposition with the ions of the depositing material ensuring a compact film with a density the same as the bulk material;
- the deposition rate can be easily controlled and can be greater than in the sputtering case (0.1 – 1 nm/s).

Some TVA technology applications:
Tribological coatings;
Nanostructured diamond like carbon;
Giant Magnetoresistive (GMR) films;
Biocompatible coatings.

Skills: mathematical modelling

Details:

Mathematical modeling for a range of applications relating to motion. This extends from space to fluidics in microsystems such as drug delivery.
Their expertise lies in developing mathematical systems that simulate real situations, thus enabling various scenarios to be modelled prior to producing hardware. Another advantage of their mathematicl modelling methods is that errors can be included into the models. This relates to sensor systems where errors from the individual sensors are always present. Systems can be developed that minimise the effect of the sensor errors. Also the performance limitations of systems build on a set of sensors can be reaslised. This enables designers to ascertain the performance requirements from sensors that are going into systems.

Modelling motion is a key area of expertise. Much of their expertise to date has been in the space and aerospace industry. However, their system modelling knowledge can be equally applied to any motion system, for example human body motion.

Air and liquid flow systems can also be modelled, and the company has specific experience in some micro-fluidic systems. Again this modelling method can be used to simulate the results expected from a range of systems, prior to producing hardware.

Skills: IR sensor development and sensor assembly

Details:

Heimann Sensor develops and manufactures thermoelectric and pyroelectric infrared sensors and modules. Our thermoelectric sensor chips are manufactured in a CMOS compatible MEMS technology and can be mounted in different TO type housings or in a COB process.

Sensor modules combine the sensor chip with an ASIC and various mirror - or infrared lens optics. The module outputs a linear temperature reference (ambient temperature) and a radiation proportional signal amplified for the 0..5V range (object temperature).

The pyroelectric sensors are optimised for low noise and highest detectivity and can also be offered in various housing sizes combined with a multitude of different infrared filters.

Main sensor application is the contact free temperature measurement of surfaces, but combined with suitable infrared filters the sensors can also be used in NDIR gas detection for gases like e.g. CO2, CO, Hydrocarbons or anaesthetics.

Our customers are typically in the industrial, medical, automotive, household appliances, office automation or indoor climate control markets.

We are offer sample packages and pre-production as well as high volume production.

Web: www.aquamarijn.name

Skills: MEMS, micro filtration, membranes, emulsification

Details:

Aquamarijn developes high flux, precision microfiltration membranes, "microsieve membranes™". The membrane is made using silicon micromaching. The membranes open a whole new era of filtration applications that have not been possible before: separation of cells or particles on size; low pressure filtration thereby minimising fouling rate; a low internal membrane volume thus no protein loss during processing; an extremely smooth membrane surface that declines the anchoring of cells or fouling to it.

In other application fields, the membrane can be beneficial: they enable users to generate monodisperse droplets, either to study emulsification processes or to generate aerosols.

Aquamarijn is continuously developing new knowledge and intellectual property in many other fields, originally related to the fabrication method for the microsieve membrane. Current knowledge covers (silicon/glass) MEMS micromachining, polymeric micro moulding and fiber spinning techniques, but is not limited to the specific application area. In particular, the recent developments in polymer technology have opened the road for several advanced micro structured products, including membranes, micro fluidics, and optics etc.
